We were in Italy a few years ago, went to the catacombs outside Rome, got on the bus (not a tour bus, the Rome MBTA bus) to go back to the city, and the bus broke down. We were sitting there waiting for another bus to come or something, when a group of German tourists came along and got on the bus. I told one of them who seemed to understand more English that the bus was broken down, and she turned to her friends and explained, "Das Bus ist kaput!"
