Good Night

I am going to New Jersey tomorrow, my Grandmother passed away. She would have been 93 on August 8, 2005. My grandmother was an excellent housekeeper, cook, baker, and seamstress. She made most of my mother and my uncles clothes when they were young. She was also a milliner and made fabulous hats. As a Deaconess in the Baptist Church, you did not go to church without a hat and many women amending Bright Hope Baptist Church in Montclair New Jersey went to my Nana to select one. My favorite was an fabulous red straw wide brimmed pill box that she made for me when I was a girl and I wore, thinking I looked like Jackie Kennedy. I attribute my love of knitting to her. Once when she was sewing my cotillion gown, I asked if I could help her by pinning the cloth and cutting the pattern for her. " Oh no, thank you" Nana said gently, " I like to do this part alone, so that I can think and plan what I am going to do." This thought has always stayed with me and when I am finishing a sweater my Nana is always with me
